Preschool and Pre-kindergarten

The preschool and pre-kindergarten programs at Cambridge Christian School are the foundation of a student’s educational career. The goal of these programs is to establish in young students a love for God, for learning, for school and to develop lasting friendships. The program nurtures cognitive, affective and directive domains through an age appropriately planned curriculum and instructional approach. Preschool and pre-kindergarten students have the opportunity to experience classes with Cambridge specialists in physical education, Spanish, computer, music and library.

The foundational philosophy of the Early Childhood department is developmental, believing that each child has a “built-in” clock, given to him or her when he or she was “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God. Within this framework, learning strategies and activities are designed to stimulate and challenge children to their greatest individual potential. At the same time, the methods are noncompetitive, and children are not pushed beyond where, through careful observation and evaluation, teachers believe them to be in terms of individual skills. The Cambridge Christian School approach is associated with engaging students in meaningful problem solving, concrete experiences, and developing their natural curiosity for learning.

Early Childhood Department (K-2nd Grade)

The kindergarten thru 2nd grade program introduces academics in a more traditional classroom setting while continuing to work with student’s individual needs and talents. Students engage in a variety of subjects including Bible, language arts, math, science and social studies with their classroom teacher. Kindergarten thru 2nd grade students experience classes with specialists in art, music, physical education, Spanish, computer and library. Weekly chapel is a highlight for the students as they take part in a lively service, which includes praise songs and a devotional time with a special speaker or a special program presented by students.

Intermediate Department (3rd-6th Grade)

In grades 3 through 6, teachers aim to strengthen the students’ inner motivation to learn and mature by presenting a curriculum designed especially for this transitional period in students’ lives. The curriculum is strongly academic and consists of instruction in Bible, reading and language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and Spanish. Various methods of teaching instruction we use in order to increase learning effectiveness. Teachers are creative in their use of whole group, small group, and cooperative learning opportunities. Hands-on activities are frequently used. Reports are a vital part of instruction as students develop independent study and organizational skills. This academic core is enriched by classes that meet the needs of the whole student, including physical education, art, vocal music, computer literacy, and library skills. Weekly chapel is a highlight for the students as they also attend a chapel service, which includes songs of praise and a devotional time with a special speaker or a special program presented by students. Christian Student Leadership Council students from 5th and 6th grade assist with chapel services.
